Neutron scattering, especially neutron reflectometry, quasi-elastic and inelastic neutron scattering, are powerful techniques to characterise the structural dynamics of a range of materials. However, despite being extensively used in some areas of science, they are still seldom employed for energy materials. This workshop intends to introduce such techniques and provide perspectives and possibilities for using advanced neutron scattering techniques (mainly QENS and reflectivity) for studying and analysing central issues to energy materials and devices ranging from ion-exchange membranes and planar membrane assemblies, to photo-excited molecules within matrices. It is intended to provide participants with an initial overview of the techniques and their application, with presentations from beamline scientists at ISIS and ILL facilities showing how the instruments work and how to access them for critical experiments. Key speakers will outline neutron scattering applications to water management in fuel cells under in situ and operando conditions, as well as recent results from within the network about photo-excited polymer dynamics held within nanoconfined matrices.
This is a free event, but to attend we ask that you please register here.
